An eye-catching full league debut for Omar Richards at Derby County – the youngster played a bulk of the 4-2 win, taking us into the international period with two consecutive wins under our belts.
He revealed that it was as simple as working hard on the training ground that prepared him to take his chance – as well as racking up some minutes in the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.
And now, his aim is to be involved as often as possible to help the team!
“It was really good – I’m just happy to get my first start, and I’m buzzing for the experience,” he reflected after the game. “I’ve just been working hard and waiting for my opportunity.
“We had a meeting before the game, and when he was setting the shape, the manager put me in the starting line-up – so I was buzzing to get the chance and I tried to take it.
“The Carabao Cup was a good chance to prepare for these sorts of games in the league. I felt ready to play in this one.
“I feel like the fans get you going in these big games. It was good to be in front of all the fans, and I think I did well.
“I’ve got to keep working hard and keep pushing, and hopefully I’ll solidify my position.
“I want to try and get into the squad more often and hopefully become a regular – and see where it goes from there.”
