It didn’t take long to realise that a serious situation was unfolding at Madejski Stadium when our defenders Liam Moore and Tiago Ilori clattered into each other in our recent meeting with Middlesbrough.
A long stoppage ensued, both players were dealt with… Ilori was taken to hospital and Moore, somehow, was able to continue the game with a heavily-bandaged head.
Luckily, neither have suffered too badly – Moore hasn’t had to miss any action and, while Ilori’s concussion has kept him away from training, he should be able to link up again before long and build towards match fitness.
And Moore revealed that they can both take inspiration from skipper Paul McShane, who has regularly bled for the Royal cause!
“Tiago is alright!” Moore said. “Obviously concussion is a lot more serious nowadays; they really do take it seriously, and he’s had to have a couple of weeks away from the training ground. He can’t train or have contact, or even exercise.
“He’s got a lovely scar… his is more impressive than mine! But he’s good and it’ll be good to have him back after the international break.
“I was half-jealous of Macca; he’s a proper defender, with all those scars… it’s just a shame it was on my own teammate! But it’s my first… and I’m sure it won’t be my last!”
