Joey hoping to rekindle fear felt by visiting sides

Midfielder on hopes of stepping up home form

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

A bulk of last season’s success was built on exemplary home form; Joey van den Berg wants to get back to that place where teams fear visiting Madejski Stadium.

The defeat to Bristol City in September was our first on home turf for 10 months… Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest are our next two guests, just four days apart, and the Dutchman knows that the Royals need to stamp their authority on the games.

“The home games should be ours again,” Van den Berg said.  “Last year, we won a lot of home games… but that was last year!  So hopefully we can turn that around now and make it our place again, and make everybody fear coming to us and not expecting to get any points, and so that we get all the points!

“That’s our main goal.  If we can achieve that, that would be brilliant.

“If we can get that feeling back and get the crowd behind us, that will make a big difference.  Everything can change with a win.

“That’s our main focus – of course we want to play good football but that comes second now… first we have to get the points.

“But when we win, it will be good football as well – I’m confident of that!”
