Vito Mannone says that a victory at a sold-out Elland Road on Saturday will give the Royals a confidence boost going into a tough October schedule.
With Mannone and his team-mates set to face Leeds, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough in the coming weeks, the goalkeeper is hoping to use these big occasions to breed a winning mentality in the group.
Having played in some big matches in the last few seasons, including the League Cup final with Sunderland, Mannone relishes the biggest occasions as a player.
On the challenge that Leeds pose, he said: “It’s a big game but from my experience I loved when the big games were coming. In the past few years, playing against teams like Man City, Man United, Liverpool, I treat Leeds United as another game like that.
“It’s a big stadium, the fans will be crazy and it’ll be a big game and a big stage for us to step on and try and get the three points.
“If we do that, if we do it there, it will give us big confidence and then go again on the next one.”
Mannone has pulled no punches in his hunger for victory at every opportunity, having said he still hopes for promotion after joining the club in the summer.
Having played two tightly-contested matches against the Whites last season, Mannone hopes that three points against tough opponents will give the Royals a springboard towards better things this season.
“When I get on the pitch, I want the maximum achievement and the three points," he added. "That’s what I’m aiming for every time I step on the pitch.
“It’s important to have the winning mentality and the wins will come if we believe and stay positive.”
