John Swift said it felt good to be back playing again after a month-long injury absence, but he hoped for more and get at least a point out of Saturday's game at Sheffield United.
Swift was introduced mid-way through the second half for the first time since the Carabao Cup tie against Swansea City in September.
He brought his trademark creativity to proceedings straight away after being brought on, and he says he's ready to carry on contributing in the coming weeks.
Speaking after the game, he said: "It looked like a tough game from where I was sat. I wasn't in the changing room at half-time so I didn't see the team talk, but I feel like we came out in the second half and really put pressure on them.
"It was good to get the goal but obviously we needed another one. At the end, it's a bit of luck putting the ball in the box and seeing if it drops for you, but we got a bit unlucky in the second half today."
Reflecting on being back in a Reading shirt after his lay-off, he added: "It was good, I felt fit. It was good to get back out there and get another 30 minutes under my belt.
"Not the result we would have wanted, but personally it felt good to be back out there."
With his team-mates in need of inspiration in the second period, he said he was hoping to be called upon as soon as possible.
"I think all the players on the bench just want to be out there, they want to go out and change the game.
"I just wanted to get on the ball and try and try and change up what we had been doing, they sat off and we had a lot of the ball in the last 30 minutes of the game.
"I was trying to get on it, trying to create chances and we only got one goal, but I think we could have had some more."
