“Straight away, it’s a good team. I knew that before I came here! They’ve got good players in all areas, they’re well organised."
Sone Aluko is well aware of the quality of his new team-mates, having faced them five times in the past year as a Fulham player!
Now that he's on side as a Royal, though, he says he's looking forward to getting out and making his debut.
Our latest signing has had a full week of training at Hogwood during the international break, and he says it has been a good experience to learn about his new club before league action gets underway again on Saturday.
Speaking about his own potential impact, he said: “Going forward, there are a lot of options and a lot of different tools they can use, I hope I can add to that and I’m looking forward to adding my contribution to the team.
“It’s been really good. Good sessions, tough sessions, it’s been good meeting all the boys and learning about their patterns of play and how the manager wants us to set up. It’s been a lot to learn, but a good week."
There has already been banter between the players on social media following some bruising encounters between the Royals and Fulham last season, with the striker joking about getting his revenge in training.
“I went for Liam Moore first, he was my number one target!" Aluko chuckled. "But all jokes aside, it’s been good. They’re a competitive bunch, good players, so I’m happy to be here.
“Because we played four times last year when I was at Fulham, and already once this year, I know a little bit about them.
Aluko also lauded the style of play put in place by manager Jaap Stam, something with which he has been learning on the training pitch during the international break.
Commenting on the Dutchman's influence on his move here, Aluko added: “He’s got a good shape about them, likes to play a good brand of football which I’ve learned this week and I’ve been enjoying.
“It’s one of the reasons I came here, because of the manager. After speaking to him and how he wants to set up, I think it will suit my style.
“Sometimes you just want to get in and get playing, but it’s been good for me to learn how the other boys play, letting them know how I play.
“It has been a lot to take in but it’s been good."
