“I’ve got a full week of training personally now, so I’m going to work really hard and try to break into this first XI and see where that takes me,” said Dave Edwards, ahead of a week without a midweek match.
The Royals’ fixture against Barnsley – which was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening – was postponed due to the Tykes’ involvement in the Carabao Cup… and while that means we don’t have the opportunity to get back to action until our trip to Brentford this Saturday, Edwards feels he will be a beneficiary of a week spent on the training fields at Hogwood.
“For me personally, it’s probably better to have this clear week to give me a chance to get to know the lads and the way that they play,” he continued. “It’s different from what I’m used to and I’ll benefit more than most from this week back at the training ground.
“I’m determined to knuckle down, learn the system and try to force my way into that starting XI. Hopefully I can do that in the coming weeks and repay the faith that the Reading have put in me by bringing me here.
“It is always nerve-racking to join a new club and walk through the door, but everyone was so welcoming. It was a lot of information to try and take in on my first day with a game coming up too, so I’m glad that I can really settle in this week and get to know everyone a bit more – and hopefully show everyone that I’m worthy of being here.
“I had an eagle-eye on the bench on Saturday to see what was going on and trying to see how it all works tactically. Obviously I’ve seen video clips before but it was good to be on the bench to see it happening live.”
