Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday… that has been the story of our season since it began on the first weekend of August.
Continued involvement in the Carabao Cup and a typically busy first month in the Sky Bet Championship have resulted in plenty of action for Reading to date.
But now we have a blank weekend forthcoming, and a fortnight away from first-team affairs… Jaap Stam is happy for a bit of respite.
“It has been a very busy month, in all the games that we have needed to play,” said the Royals gaffer.
“As I’ve said before, these two weeks will be very good for us in terms of bringing back players into the squad and getting them fit, and getting some players used to our system.
“It’s good that we have these two weeks. I’m very happy that we got this result over at Birmingham but I’m also very happy with these two weeks coming up, as it gives everybody a bit of a breather.
“We can work on things that we’ll need to do so that when we start again against Bristol City at home, we can have a big squad and can make a lot of choices.”
