"I'm very, very pleased. Last year was my first year, I was aiming for just a two-year (deal) but the chance came to sign another year, so I'm very very pleased to sign an extra year."
Joey van den Berg was delighted to extend his stint as a Royal, becoming the latest player in a long line of the current squad to commit his future to the club.
The midfielder put pen to paper on a one-year extension to his Royals deal, taking his stay at Madejski Stadium until at least 2019.
The Dutchman says his decision to stay was easy, following several other contract extensions over summer and how well his family has settled in the area after leaving the Netherlands to play in England for the first time.
"(The move) was a bit of a gamble, it was a whole new experience. Last year was very good, I feel comfortable, my kids are going to school here, my wife is feeling better and better at the place and that was also a reason for me to sign this deal.
"I'm very, very thankful for the club to give me the opportunity as well."
Van den Berg also revealed how comfortable and welcomed the club made him feel when he joined, praising the squad and staff around the club as a whole.
Elaborating on his reasons for staying, he added: "It's the club, the people, it's very much how I like it. It's not pure business, it's more friendly.
"Sometimes you just feel good and it's very good to sign another year if you feel good.
"You always want to push forward and go to the highest level you want to be. There have been a lot of signings already, we can keep the team together and that will build an even stronger team. That was also a big reason for me to do it!"
