We’ve got two potential debutants waiting in the wings – Dave Edwards and Sone Aluko have both joined since the Royals’ last outing against Birmingham before the international weekend.
Royals gaffer Jaap Stam is pleased to have brought in players with pedigrees of success to Madejski Stadium.
“Everybody knows the quality of Sone and what he can do,” Jaap said of our most recent arrival.
“He’s shown that at Fulham and at previous clubs. So we’re very happy with him joining us, and in the training sessions he is quite familiar with what we want to do and how we want to play.
He continued: “Dave Edwards is still away with the national team and won’t be back until Thursday, so he has a little time to prepare for Saturday, but after that he’ll have more time to get used to everything over here.
“They are both very experienced in what they have done in the past, and that’s very important. They have the type of mentality that we’re looking for within the group. So we’re very happy with that. They know what is expected in the Championship and if you want to get somewhere and win things. And they can communicate on the pitch – that’s very important.”
Seven signings came in throughout the summer; Aluko was the last of them, two days before the close of the transfer window.
“You want to have you squad complete as early as possible – that’s not always possible, but we are very happy with what the owners have brought to the club for us as well,” Jaap continued.
“They have been willing to invest and bring new players in, because they find it important to support the club, the fans and us as coaching staff as well to hopefully have a good season.
“We’re very happy in what they have done. We have brought in players with experience, we’ve brought in young players with a lot of potential. The squad has become stronger; we need to have a lot of competition within the squad as well, so players need to push each other as well.”
