The first World Cup winning England team at any level since 1966… Luke Southwood and his Under-20 teammates headed to Kensington Palace earlier this week for a royal reception with HRH Prince William!
The stopper was a Royals representative in South Korea earlier this year as the Young Lions lifted the title. They came through a group containing Argentina, Guinea and hosts South Korea, before seeing off Costa Rica, Mexico and Italy en route to a final with Venezuela… Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted the sole goal in Suwon to take the trophy back to these shores!
So the silverware was taken out of the cabinet and brought along to Kensington Palace on Thursday afternoon – where royalty in the guise of Prince William had a chance to meet the nation’s heroes, including a Royal!
And football isn’t just a passing interest for the Duke of Cambridge… a lifelong fan of Aston Villa, he has been the President of the Football Association since 2006 and is a huge champion of the beautiful game.
