“We’re defending our zones, we’re standing our ground”

Moore reflects on back-to-back home wins

8 April 2018

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

It was another battling, resolute performance at home against Preston North End – Mo Barrow’s early goal was backed up by some stern and solid defending, which resulted in consecutive 1-0 wins at home.

Liam Moore made umpteen defensive contributions – putting his head in where it hurts and his body on the line, breaking up North End’s attack.

And, sporting a fat lip at the final whistle, it was just another day’s work for the centre-half!

“It was squeaky-bum time at the end!” Moore said.  “But that’s a natural reaction; you’ve got to defend what you’ve got, and for the last two weeks here we’ve done well.

“Preston went a bit more direct than we expected.  Their forwards weren’t the biggest but they were willing to compete, and if that’s the case, we have to compete as well.

“We’re five games away, and we need to get to where we need to be… if that means getting a cut here or there, or a fat lip, we’ll take that!

“We all know how much a win means to us.  It was the same last week – luckily we’ve been able to hold on.  Moving forward, we want to carry on attacking as well and win the games more comfortably.

“We’ve had a slight tactical change – it’s only minimal but the lads have really taken it on board.  We look a bit harder to break down, and the spaces look smaller between the players and the goal.

“We’re defending our zones, we’re standing our ground.  That’s stood us in good stead for the last couple of weeks and if we can continue to do that, and build on our attacking play, we’ll have a good chance.”

It’s a step closer to securing our position in the Sky Bet Championship for next season… while results elsewhere were mixed from Reading’s perspective, Moore is only concentrating on what the Royals can control.

“We’re aware of what’s going on, and we were aware before the game of Barnsley result,” he continued.  “But we’ve only got to worry about ourselves.

“We want to keep doing our own job, keep looking forward and keep trying to get the points.”
