Royals defender Axel Andresson has today penned a one-year extension to his current Reading contract, as well as agreeing a loan switch to Norwegian outfit Viking Stavanger.
The 20-year-old Icelander’s contract extension at Madejski Stadium keeps him at the club until the summer of 2020. His loan deal with Viking runs until the close of the Norwegian season, which ends on November 11th, with the prospect of a play-off promotion campaign to follow.
It will be Axel’s third loan spell away from Reading; previously he has spent time with Bath City and Torquay United. He also has two Royals senior appearances to his name, both coming in Carabao Cup wins against Gillingham and Millwall last season.
And now it’s across to Scandinavia to try and help Viking with their promotion push back to the top tier, following their relegation last season.
With 11 games remaining, Viking are on a hot streak of six wins in seven matches and sit just five points from the summit. Andresson’s first opportunity to make his debut comes this Sunday as relegation-threatened Strømmen visit Viking Stadion.
The loan stint will offer the centre-half more invaluable experience of competitive football over the coming months – and all at Reading would like to wish Axel and Viking the very best of luck.
