FULL TIME | Reading 0-2 Watford

The Hornets are unbeaten in the Premier League and, after tonight's win, all competitions. Reading full of endeavour but didn't create anything clear cut on a night of few chances.

Navarro is booked as he sandwiches Yiadom with the help of Hughe on the left side of the Watford box.

Three minutes of additional time are signalled. Not enough to rescue this one.

Meite is booked after a throw is awarded to Watford when it seemed he had battled well and won back possession.

Former Royal Chalobah makes way for Will Hughes.

FREE KICK | Meite wins a set piece on the left which Bacuna delivers into the box with his right boot.

It is headed clear but Meite controls it and forces Gomes into a smart save low to his left.

Gaps opening up on the pitch now and chances at both ends.

Walker makes a good low save as Navarro strides onto a cut back and drills goalwards.

Then at the other end, McNulty does well to latch onto a ball over the top and stay onside. He gets a toe to it to loft it over the onrishing Gomes but Mariappa is covering and clears before it can bounce towards the open goal.

Quina is off and Doucoure is brought onto the pitch.

CHANCE! A lovely move works the ball from right to left and Meite drills a low cross in.

It is half cleared, but only to Kelly who chests it under control and then arrows a half-volley just over the bar from a good position.

Sims delivers a cross into the Watford area, but it is too close to Gomes and McNulty nor Baldock can get in front of it.

Reading still striving for a way back into this cup tie but time is fast running out.

Femenia has been a handful all night and he dinks a cross into the box from the left.

Okaka rises but directs his header harmlessly wide.

A good burst from Yiadom wins the Royals a corner.

Bacuna swings it in and Moore gets his head to it but it sails just over. The referee blows his whistle for a foul in the middle anyway.

Watford make a change too.

Sema is off and Stefano Okaka is on in his place.

Final throw of the dice for Paul Clement.

John O'Shea is coming off and Sam Baldock is on up front.

Andy Yiadom is coming off the bench to replace Omar Richards at left-back.

What a strike!

That should be the tie settled and it is a top corner finish from Domingos Quina that hands Javi Gracia's side a 2-0 advantage.

SAVE! Walker does well to keep Marc Navarro out at his near post after the Watford man darted through. Corner.

Meite feeds Sims in space on the right. He is crowded out but wins a corner.

Bacuna's delivery it too deep for everyone though.

Chance for the visitors as Sema scurries onto an Ilori clearance which is charged down.

He crossed into the middle where Success rises above Richards but directs his header wide.

Josh Sims comes off the bench to make his Madejski Stadium debut.

He becomes the 252nd player to represent the Royals here!

Second half is underway here...

Come on URRZZZ!

HALF-TIME: Reading 0-1 Watford

Isaac Success' late first half finish separates the sides in a very tight cup tie here at the Madejski...

Reading trying to get the equaliser before half-time here, but they're unable to find a way through the Watford back line as the interval approaches.

Success had come close with an instinctive deflection on a Femenia drive that skidded wide moments earlier.

But a deflected cross from the left falls very kindly for Success this time who nips in ahead of Walker and taps home from yards out to give Watford the lead.

Success shows his pace to get in behind the Reading back line.

But another fine block from Moore on the edge of the area reverberates around Madejski Stadium.

Leandro Bacuna needs some attention after coming off second best in a collision with Wilmot.

He looks like he is going to carry on after receiving treatment.

Gunter crosses the ball into the Hornets box from the right and it lands at the feet of McNulty.

With his back to goal, he shoots on the turn from 12 yards out but it flies just over the crossbar.

Great running from Meite to chase a direct kick forward from Walker and win a corner on the left.

Gomes then does well to punch Bacuna's delivery away from the head of Meite and out for a throw.

Good chance for the visitors!

A corner is taken short and floated to the back post where Feminia arrives to angle the ball back into the middle. Walker does enough to direct it away from goal before Moore produces a brave block with his chest, throwing his body on the line to charge down a close range effort from Mariappa.

A back pass from Moore is short and Isaac Success closes down Sam Walker.

The ball richochets into the air and O'Shea clears it but Watford recycle it down the left and win a corner.

Domingos Quina wriggles away from two or three Reading men looking to dispossess him.

But his cross-shot is high and wide of Sam Walker's goal from 25 yards out.

Paul Clement has changed his shape for this cup tie, starting with a 3-5-2 formation, with O'Shea joining Ilori and Moore at the back.

Gunter and Richards are being used as wing-backs with Meite alongside McNulty up top.

Good ball in from Gunter on the right side.

It can't quite find Meite in the middle though as a Watford body intercepts the cross with his chest. A good start from the Royals though.

Swift interchange of passes between Kelly and McNulty

But the latter snatches at a speculative shot and skies it too high to trouble Gomes.

The Royals get us underway in this Second Round tie!

Teams are out!

This man making his full Royals debut this evening!

Warm up time 🏃

Former Royal Adrian Mariappa skippers the visitors today...

I always still look for Watford’s results. I still live in the town, I was there as a very young boy up to being a professional and then on the coaching staff. And the Watford fans are still really good to me.

Among the changes for tonight's game is a first start in the hoops for John O'Shea; he debuted from the bench in the First Round against Birmingham City.

It's straight to spot-kicks if we can't decide it after 90 minutes tonight.

And the Third Round draw takes place tomorrow evening.

TEAM NEWS | Plenty of changes for tonight’s game – but a first appearance of the season for Chris Gunter!

Reading: Walker, Gunter, Richards, Moore (c), Ilori, O’Shea, Bacuna, Kelly, Swift, Meite, McNulty.
Subs: Jaakkola, Yiadom, McShane, Baldock, Sims, Clement, Rinomhota.

Watford: Gomes, Masina, Mariappa (c), Prodl, Navarro, Sema, Chalobah, Wilmot, Quina, Feminia, Success.

A little over 15 minutes until we'll be able to bring you team news for tonight's cup tie at Madejski Stadium...

I would like to play more games in the Carabao Cup and in the FA Cup, I like these competitions.

Javi Gracia

I scored two goals in this competition in a home and away leg against Darlington, which is very unusual for me. So some good memories of this cup competition and I am looking forward to tonight.

Nigel Gibbs

Liam Moore on tonight's cup tie...

We're less than an hour away from getting the team news here at Madejski Stadium as the Royals take on unbeaten Premier League opposition in Javi Gracia's Watford at home tonight.

And an hour after that, we'll be underway in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup – a place in tomorrow evening’s Third Round draw at stake.
