A disappointing end to a strong performance by the Royals, we go again next weekend away at Nottingham Forest.

That's the final whistle.

Derby win it with the last action of the match.

Tom Lawrence wins it for Derby at the death with a well-executed glancing header into the far corner.

Good spell of possession for Reading in the Derby half, Kelly tries to thread it through the defence but there wasn't a forward on the right path for him.

Carson takes a free-kick from the halfway line for the Rams, the ball finds its way to Bryson on the edge of the area but he scuffs his shot wide.

Four added minutes at the end of the first game of the season...

Barrow plays it square towards Aluko in the area, it's only cleared into the path of Bacuna 30 yards out.

He can hit them from distance - but this particular effort sailed over the bar.

Both players go into the referee's notebook as a result.

Meite and Johnson disagree over a decision and both squads gather to break them up...

Final subsitution for the Royals - with Leandro Bacuna coming on for David Meyler in the middle of the park.

Great save Mannone!

Wisdom spreads play to Lawrence on the left, he cross for Wilson at the far post for what looks like a certain - but Mannone manages to claw it off the line.

Heading into the final 10 minutes here at Madejski Stadium, and the outcome of this game is still anyojne's guess...

Tempers are beginning to flare on the pitch, with lots of little fouls starting to go in on both sides.

Second change for the Royals coming, as goalscorer Böðvarsson comes off for Yakou Meite.

Second substitution for the Rams, as David Nugent is replaced by Mason Bennett.

Omar Richards finds some space on the left and tries to cross in the area - just too deep for a Reading head.

First change for Derby - as Joe Ledley is replaced by Bradley Johnson.

First change of the evening, as Swift comes off and Sam Baldock enters the fray for his Royals debut.

Slight gap in play as John Swift is in some discomfort - but he tries to run off the knock and carries on.

Derby have their tails up now.

Nugent combines with Wilson, who tries to cross for Lawrence in the area - just evading the Welshman's touch and out for a goal kick.

Derby equalise against the run as Mason Mount strikes hard from distance - goes under the gloves of Mannone and into the bottom corner.

Back level here.

Derby get forward themselves with Wilson finding room in the area. Paul McShane tackles onto the boot of Joe Ledley - but Mannone is there to gather.

Jón Daði Böðvarsson gives the Royals the lead!

Mo Barrow gets the ball out wide, hangs up a delightful cross for Böðvarsson in the middle and he powers it into the bottom corner! URRRRZZZZ!

It's end-to-end stuff here in RG2 at the moment!

Both teams finding joy going forward but no clear-cut chances as yet.

A deflected cross on the left finds the head of Nugent in the area - it goes in the net but the assistant's flag is already up for offside!

Derby's Max Lowe sees yellow just 30 seconds after the restart, bundling over Aluko on the right.

Here we go!

The second half has begun, with John Swift getting the ball rolling once more.

Dusk has descended over Madejski Stadium as the players come out for the start of the second half.

It's in the balance here, it could go either way. Come on URZ!

Harry Wilson scoops the free-kick into the Eamonn Dolan Stand and the referee signals for the break.

It's goalless here, but the Royals could easily be ahead.

Derby have a free-kick 20 yards out after Barrow commits a foul - this is likely to be the final action of the half...

Two added minutes to be played at the end of the half here.

Reading break forward once more with Richards finding Barrow, who in turn squares to Aluko 20 yards out.

He curls one towards the top corner but just goes past the upright.

Craig Bryson goes into the book this time for Derby, for a nasty challenge on Liam Kelly.

The resulting corner is swung in and Tiago Ilori gets to it first - forcing Carson into another good save, this time low to his right.

Smart save from Carson!

Mo Barrow is played in by Swift, but the winger finds a ball across the area for Liam Kelly to shoot. He tried to catch Carson out at his near post - but the goalkeeper made a good save to push it round for a corner.

The manager gives his instructions from the sidelines...

Paul Clement's side have had the better of the first half - they'll want to cap it off with a goal they feel they'd deserve.

Liam Kelly now goes into the book for a late lunge on Mason Mount.

David Meyler has been shown a yellow for a late tackle in midfield on Bryson.

Heading into the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Swift takes two players out of commission with a perfectly-judged turn in the attacking third.

He tries to tee up Böðvarsson in the area but it's just out of his reach!

Derby show their attacking intent with Ledley playing a ball round the corner looking for Nugent's run into the area - the assistant's flag goes up, however.

Andy Yiadom shows deft footwork to touch away from his man on the right, attempts a cross and it's cleared for a corner.

Aluko swings it in towards Ilori at the far post - just beyond the Reading man as it goes out for a goal kick.

Liam Kelly delivers a fantastic ball towards the six-yard area, but former England goalkeeper Carson does well to get up and punch clear.

The first yellow card of the season has been shown - Mo Barrow is too quick for Andre Wisdom on the far side, and the Derby full-back cynically brings him down. Reading free-kcick in a good position.

A threatening ball is played through to Nugent on the edge of the area, but Omar Richards does brilliantly to get back and cover - winning a free-kick in the process.

First burst forward for the Rams.

Tom Lawrence cuts in from the left and looks to unleash a strike - but he suffers the ignominy of his shot going out for a throw-in.

It's been a tight match so far at Madejski Stadium, the Royals have shaded the chances but they'll be hoping to take one of them sooner rather than later.

Play looks like it has started to settle down after a frantic start here in RG2 - good start from Paul Clement's side so far but the Rams look dangerous going forward.

Another chacne for Jón Daði Böðvarsson!

Barrow is sent through by Kelly, his cross is only half-cleared for the Iceland striker to hit one from 15 yards - but it's saved comfortably by Carson.

Great chance!

Swift wins the ball in midfield and plays it through for Böðvarsson - who gets into the area and shoots - but Carson narrows the angle to save. Close for the Royals!

Lawrence thinks he's in space while he's on the ball for Derby, before Sone Aluko quickly dispossesses him.

He bursts upfield and draws a foul, before putting in the resulting free-kick - which the Rams clear.

Fast start from the Royals! Swift picks it up in midfield ans slides through to Barrow on the left.

He tries to pick a cross for Böðvarsson but Keogh slides in to cut out the danger.

Here we go!

Derby get us underway, the Royals are shooting towards the South Stand in the first period.

Come on URRRZZZ!

The teams are out, Black Magic is on the speakers, 2018-19 is moments from getting underway...

Plenty of noise coming from the South Stand with the combination of Derby's away fans and our own Club 1871 supporters, the countdown to kick-off is on!

A few more seats are getting filled here in RG2, the atmosphere is starting to build and we're almost ready to get going here...

Both teams are out and warming up on a muggy, warm night in RG2 - tricky conditions at the start of the campaign.

Just over 20 minutes until we get underway!

Derby line up like this:

Carson, Wisdom, Bryson, Keogh, Davies (c), Mount, Lawrence, Lowe, Ledley, Wilson, Nugent.

Subs: Roos, Jozefzoon, Johnson, Pearce, Bennett, Bogle, Thomas.

The teams are in, and it's competitive debuts for Andy Yiadom and David Meyler here at Madejski Stadium - with Sam Baldock, Marc McNulty, Sam Walker and John O'Shea all available from the bench.
