If you're not at The City Ground this weekend supporting the first team, you can still get your football fix by watching our Under-23s!

Marshall praises U23 pre-season performances

Scott Marshall's young squad will be taking to the turf at Madejski Stadium on Saturday lunchtime as they start their new Premier League 2 campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers (1pm kick-off).

Also, Season Ticket holders gain free entry into this match - and parking in RG2 is also free! Coupled with this, frequent Greenwave Bus services to and from Reading town centre can get you to the game on the day.

If you're not a Season Ticket holder, entry is just £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions (65 & Over, 24 & Under) cash only - so it's a great chance to see the next generation of Royals on a summer's afternoon.

In the first of several matches scheduled at Madejski Stadium for the upcoming season for our youngsters, Marshall explained the rationale behind the move.

"It's always great to play at the stadium, the boys always get a lift playing there," he said. "We've got a few Saturday fixtures there as well, which helps us keep on the same programme as the first team.

"We can then support first team training and everyone's on the same page, we don't get any ups and downs in the training programme, which helps and it means the guys can slot in and out of the different groups - with no worries on the physical side."

Marshall led our U23s to the play-off semi-finals last season, coming away with an agonising 4-3 defeat against Aston Villa to end their hopes of promotion back to the top tier of the Premier League 2.

With a host of players making the step up to U23 level for the upcoming season, the squad will be going into the campaign hoping to develop further and win plenty of matches.

The team rounded off pre-season with a pair of impressive wins against Swansea City and Charlton Athletic in the last few days, and they kick the season off in earnest this weekend.

If you want to satisfy your football craving this Saturday and still have time to tune in for the first team game afterwards, come along and back the Under-23s!
