It’s official. The Royals will face Premier League side Watford at Madejski Stadium for a place in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
This comes after the Royals defeated Championship Birmingham City 2-0 on Tuesday night at Madejski Stadium in the first round.
The fixture was drawn as the last tie of the southern section, live on Sky Sports with Mick McCarthy, Chris Waddle and David Prutton.
Reading haven’t faced the Hornets since March 2015. And unfortunately for the Royals, the last meeting didn’t end so well.
Watford ran out as 4-1 winners in the Sky Bet Championship with Almen Abdi, Troy Deeney, Fernando Forestieri and former Royals loanee Matej Vydra making it onto the scoresheet.
At this stage last season, the Royals hosted fellow Championship side Millwall – beating them 3-1 AET courtesy of Leandro Bacuna and two late strikes from George Evans and Sam Smith.
In comparison at this stage last season, a 10-man Watford suffered an early exit from the competition after Bristol City beat them 3-2 at Vicarage Road.
Full details of the tie will be announced across all club channels in due course. Ties will be played week commencing 27th August.
