A midweek trip to Ewood Park – that’s the challenge this Wednesday when we meet Blackburn Rovers.
Paul Clement knows full well that there’s nothing to be taken for granted against a team that earned promotion from League One last season – the Royals will need to execute their gameplan to a tee if they are going to register their first league win of the campaign.
“Games come thick and fast. But what a hard game. Everyone has to be absolutely up for it – especially mentally,” Clement said.
“Blackburn is a club I used to work at and it’s always a difficult place to go to play. I know what the atmosphere can be like there – they’re buoyant after coming back up into the division.
“They’ll be looking to do good things this year. They just had a fantastic away result at Hull, so we expect a difficult game. Our mentality has to be absolutely right for these next two games.”
The schedule is really getting packed for the Royals, and the full extent of the squad will have to be on their game.
With a new signing in Josh Sims, players making returns from injury, other upcoming games to think about and past performances to reflect on, the manager will put together a very capable squad in Lancashire.
“We’ll look at the opposition, how the players have performed and I’ll pick the team that I think has the best chance of going out and getting a result,” he continued.
“I still have a lot of confidence in the players. They are trying hard – there’s no question of that. But trying hard is not enough. We need to find solutions together.”
