Our Under-23 side begin their Premier League International Cup campaign this Friday – it’s a trip to Holmes Park to meet Leicester City.
In the somewhat less cosmopolitan of our three group fixtures, we’ll be meeting our fellow Premier League 2 side at the home of Leicestershire & Rutland County FA.
But then in the coming months we’ll be visited by Sparta Prague and Feyenoord, with the top two teams from our pool progressing to the knock-out stages.
While we began our PL2 season with a 2-2 draw against Wolves at Madejski Stadium last Saturday, the Foxes kicked off with three points against Swansea at the King Power Stadium on Monday evening.
This is the third time we have entered the PL International Cup – we’ve had some terrific experience against continental opposition. Hertha Berlin, Athletic Bilbao, Porto and Bayern Munich have provided opposition over the past two campaigns, as well as Arsenal and Everton as our fellow English entrants.
We are yet to progress into the knock-out stages, however… so three points when we visit the Midlands would help us get off to a good start.
Don’t forget that we have another Under-23 fixture at Madejski Stadium later this month; our boys host Sunderland on Saturday 25th August for a 1pm kick-off.
