Andresson makes permanent switch to Viking

Icelander joins Stavanger outfit

21 December 2018

Defender Axel Andresson has today completed the paperwork to finalise a deal to take him to Norwegian outfit Viking Stavanger on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Icelander, a product of our Academy, played nine games as a Viking loanee at the tail-end of the Norwegian season – and his contributions helped the club to a dramatic promotion on the final day of the campaign last month, bouncing back instantly after their relegation the season before.

Having first linked up with our Academy in 2014, the centre-half gained experience out on loan with Bath City in the National League South in the 2016-17 season, before making his two senior appearances for the Royals the following season.

Both of his first-team games in the blue and white hoops came at Madejski Stadium in Carabao Cup wins against Gillingham and Millwall last season, before linking up with Torquay United for a loan stint in the National League over the festive period.

Now Axel returns to Stavanger, where he enjoyed a successful spell in Norway’s second tier earlier this year. He links up with Bjarne Berntsen’s side in time for their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2019 Eliteserien season when it kicks off with a home game against Kristiansund in March.

All at Reading Football Club would like to wish Axel every success during his time at Viking and for his future career.
