First defeat in 15 for Royals’ U23s

Youngsters fall to 2-0 loss against West Brom

9 December 2018

Reading’s Under-23 side lost their first game in 15 as hosts West Bromwich Albion ran out 2-0 victors on Saturday.

Two first-half goals for the hosts at the Palm Training Ground were enough to give the Baggies the points – but Reading remain top of Premier League 2 for the moment.

It could have been a different story if Ben House’s early effort had snuck in – instead it clipped the outside of the post.  And soon after the striker drew a save from former Royal Jonathan Bond.

But when Sam Wilding was brought down in the area by Reading stopper Adam Desbois, experienced midfielder Wes Hoolahan converted from the penalty spot.

And then Kyle Edwards, who played for the Baggies’ senior team against Reading earlier this season, picked off a pass and produced a fine lob to double to advantage before the break.

In worsening weather, Reading stormed forward after the break and drew a few saves from Bond – nothing to truly trouble the stopper.  It was a well-managed end to the game for West Brom as Reading saw a five-game winning streak ended.
