Tim Robinson will be officiating on New Year's Day, with the Royals taking on Swansea City at Madejski Stadium in José Gomes' first home match as Reading manager.
The Sussex official will be overseeing his second Reading match of the season, having also been in charge during the Royals' home match against Norwich City back in September.
Mr Robinson has averaged around four yellow cards per match in his games so far this season, as well as brandishing the red card five times this term.
This will be Robinson's seventh visit to Madejski Stadium as a main official, and also his first time in seven years as a Football League referee that he will be taking charge of a match involving Swansea.
He will be assisted on the day by Andrew Fox and Mark Pottage, with Dean Whitestone in reserve as fourth official.
