Just before local schools broke up for the Christmas holidays, Reading goalkeeper Sam Walker was in attendance as Reading FC Community Trust ran their latest Learning Zone experience as we welcomed pupils from Nine Mile Ride primary school to Madejski Stadium.
The Learning Zone has a permanent base in The Royal Bus, which is situated in the Fun Zone on matchdays, but we have also begun to run workshops based inside the stadium for a fun experience for students from Years 5 and 6.
Our Community Trust have funded the Learning Zone thanks to a governmental Innovation Fund grant, which has helped them to deliver the series of sessions as part of the Premier League Primary Stars initiative.
And Nine Mile Ride, who were the first school to visit us in RG2, were back again earlier this month to transform the media suite in the West Stand into a Learning Zone.
Goalkeeper Sam Walker helped them to complete their challenges – which combined learning with the fun of football.
He also held a Q&A session in the very same room that Reading managers from down the years have given their post-match press conferences, as well as signing matchday programmes for the students.
It was another fun day at the stadium where we strengthened our connection with one of our local school – and we look forward to more of the same in future too.
