Earlier this month, our Academy’s Under-10 side had the opportunity to visit the England national team’s training base and take part in a four-club tournament… and they brought home the trophy too!
It was more terrific experience for our fledgling young players, all of whom have the hopes of adding to the ever-growing list of Academy graduates to represent the Royals first team in the future.
The event, hosted by Burton Albion, allowed the youngsters to take part in a whistle-stop tour of St George’s Park – seeing the facilities that the England senior and youth teams get to work with during international periods.
They also took a look around the England Futsal arena, as well as trying to spot famous squiggles on the spectacular signature wall!
And then on to the four-club tournament, which was played against Newcastle United, Leicester City and Burton Albion.
Both of Reading’s representative squads reached the semi-final stage… and one of them defeated one of Newcastle’s sides in a dramatic penalty shoot-out – take a look at the video below!
They went on to win the tournament in the final too, capping off a thoroughly enjoyable day for all.
Meanwhile our Under-15 squad continue to impress in their Premier League Floodlit Cup campaign. A 1-0 victory last week against Luton Town – contested at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane stadium – means they have accrued nine points from their four group games to date.
Their two remaining games are away against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who the Royals defeated 5-0 on home turf, and at home against Walsall who were 3-1 winners when the sites met in the Midlands.
