Reading’s Under-23 side will be visiting Flackwell Heath in the Quarter-Final of this year’s Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup, with the tie set to take place on Tuesday 22nd January 2019.
Under the guidance of Reading-born manager Marcus Richardson, the Hellenic League Premier outfit have defeated two divisional rivals en route to the final eight of the competition.
The Heathens went away and won 3-1 at newly-formed Reading City in the First Round, before travelling to Windsor and triumphing 4-3 on penalties after the fixture had been poised at 1-1 at the final whistle at the next stage. And now a new challenge when they meet our talented fledglings at Wilks Park in the new year.
The Royals, entering the competition for the first time since 2002, received a bye to the second stage. And in the Second Round, goalkeeping heroics by Myles Roberts – two weeks before his 17th birthday – ensured a clean sheet as Shamar Moore and Ben House netted in a 2-0 win.
The Royals are three-time winners of the competition – the inaugural tournament in 1879, then 1892, and most recently 1995. Flackwell Heath have never won the title – but in 2016 they did lift the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, a tournament open primarily to Step 6 and 7 clubs.
Reading supporters are very welcome to attend and come and get behind our stars of the future – Wilks Park, located in Chepping Wycombe, is 20 miles as the crow flies from Madejski Stadium. Ticket information will be announced in due course.
