Fine margins were the difference once more. But Royals forward Sone Aluko is aware that we have to make those margins fall in our favour to get ourselves out of trouble in the final 15 games of the campaign.
"Goals change games and up until their first goal just before half-time, I think it was pretty even.
"They had a good spell at the start of the second half, but I thought we finished the game pretty strongly - but it's just disappointing we had to wait until we were 2-0 down before we really started to dominate the game and create chances.
"We had a lot of pressure and created some good opportunties, didn't give up and got the goal back and we could have had a draw in the end. But once you give a team like Middlesbrough a two goal lead, it's dificult to turn it around and we couldn't get that second goal and come away with a point. It wasn't our day.
"It's still fine margins. We could have taken a point from this game on another day because, as I say, we created some opportunities. But we have to make margins work in our favour.
"It's not going our way at the minute, but I'm a big believer in making your own luck and we have to keep believing.
"It's easy to lose confidence when you're losing games, and you start second guessing yourselves. But we haven't become bad players overnight, so we believe it will turn with hard work.
"And we'll be working hard! We have to stick together, keep fighting and address the problems we're encountering in games at the moment.
"We are where we are. It's the reality, and we've got to deal with it. It's about what's going on between your ears as much as what is happening with the ball at your feet - as players, you've got to keep believing. And if we do, I'm confident we will turn it around."
