Elphick expecting ‘ferocious’ Lions

Defender assesses today’s challenge

3 February 2018

Tommy Elphick has met today’s opponents Millwall once already this season – they held his Aston Villa side to a 0-0 draw at Villa Park back in December.

“A manager with a vision and a philosophy – that’s hard to come by!”

Therefore he has a firm impression on what kind of challenge they’ll pose… he believes it’ll need the team to be on their game from start to end.

And despite being less involved in recent weeks for the Villans before heading to Reading, he feels fighting fit and ready to be involved.

“I pride myself on being a good professional and I think I’ve been keeping myself in good nick,” Elphick said.  “I was recalled over the Christmas period and played three games of 90 minutes in the period of a week so hopefully I’ll get that chance against Millwall.

“Millwall are ferocious – they’ll launch the ball forward at every opportunity, they’ve got willing players who are trying their socks off for the manager.

“They’re overachieving with the resources they’ve got, and you can tell the willingness to do what the manager is asking of them.

“It’ll be a really tough game for us.  But hopefully our win against Burton gives us a massive lift – it’s our first win since the start of December.  It’s a good platform for us to build on.”

Elphick could make his home debut today, and Chris Martin is also eligible for a first run-out in Reading colours since his deadline day move.  Tickets are available at a discounted rate until midday – click the banner below for details.
