Jaap on showing confidence, last time at Derby, and an injury update

Manager ahead of the weekend’s game…

22 February 2018

“We know that we need to play a lot of games in a short period,” said Jaap Stam as we get into the thick of a heavily congested schedule of games. Next up is Derby… we triumphed 4-2 at the iPro earlier in the campaign, and a repeat result would be welcome!

“Of course Derby is the next game at home – they’re a very good side, but hopefully at home we can get three points on Saturday.

“They know what we can do, and we know what they can do.  We need to start like we did in the first half against Forest – be confident in what we can do on the ball, and hopefully we’ll eventually take the chances that we’ll create.

“Derby have done very well and they have quality in their squad.  We played over there and had a good result – they’ll try and stop us doing the things that we like to do, but I hope that we can reach the same level as we did when we visited them.”

John Swift was missing in midweek against Nottingham Forest, but he is returning to availability after a spell on the sidelines and could challenge for a place in the matchday squad.

“Swifty has been training – he was out with us in Spain and trained there,” Jaap continued.  “He feels good and he’s looking good as well.

“We’ll need to make a decision in the next couple of days to whether he can join into the squad.”
