“We have to look in the mirror, but sticking together as a team is the most important thing now,” reflected Pelle Clement after a defeat at home against Birmingham City. “We need to keep working hard and believing in what we were doing.
“If you look at our squad, we have a lot of class players. It’s so frustrating that it’s not working out at the moment.”
The Royals had forced a number of saves from David Stockdale, before Jacques Maghoma picked up the pieces from a Blues set-piece and lashed in the opener. And in the second period, the visitors capitalised from the break and doubled their lead through Sam Gallagher.
“In this league, you know that these kind of goals can happen. You have to be sharp in that moment. And nevertheless we have to create more opportunities and be more comfortable on the ball and get into those areas where we can be dangerous.
“That’s not happening enough at the moment, and that’s frustrating.
“You have to be straight with each other – tell each other what to do, and tell each other when we do good things and bad things. And that has to be in a positive way and a in a positive mood – not moaning about each other behind our backs. We have to stay as a family.
“Everyone believes, even in a difficult time. We have the players to play the way that we want to play, and when we get into a rhythm we will get results.”
