Playing football and fighting hard – the gaffer previews trip to Hull

Jaap on the challenge ahead at the KCOM

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

This weekend, we’ll be meeting a team in a similar situation to us – Hull City are also keen to get back on a winning track after struggling to pick up points in recent weeks in the Championship.

Jaap Stam, the Royals’ boss, expects the encounter to be one where both teams will be trying to show both sides of the game – quality on and off the ball, as well as the fighting spirit that is needed to get results in this division.

“After last weekend’s game, we’ve had the whole week to prepare and pay a bit more attention to certain things that we need to improve,” said Jaap.  “So preparation is going well.

“Hull is a big club – they’re a good team with good players.  They’re in a similar position to us – they need to fight hard to get their points as well, so we can expect a very motivated side who will try to make it very hard for us.

“But that’s what we’re going to try to do to them as well.  It’ll be two teams that want to play football, but who also need to fight very hard.

“We’ve seen what they are trying to do and the quality of their players so we need to be aware of the players who can make it difficult.  We’re showing the players clips of those things – and at the other end we’ll need to take our chances as well.”
