Reading Football Club can confirm that Bucharest-born winger Adrian Popa has agreed to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Taawoun on loan until the end of the season.
Popa, who turns 30 this summer, left his native Romania for the first time in his career to sign for Reading from Steaua Bucharest a year ago and has made 9(+7) appearances to date as a Royal.
The former FC Universitatea Cluj and CS Concordia Chiajna forward has scored once for the club, breaking away to add an injury time goal to a win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough last March.
The Royals played a pre-season friendly against Al-Taawoun before Popa’s arrival in RG2, winning 3-1 against the Saudi Arabian outfit during a summer training camp in Oosterbeek back in July 2016.
And now Popa will spend the remainder of the season at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium – we wish him the very best of luck during his loan period in Saudi Arabia.
The paperwork remains subject to the normal ratification procedures from the relevant football authorities, but Popa could potentially make his Pro League bow for his loan side against Al-Nassr at home on Tuesday or away to Al-Faisaly this weekend.
