Rakels returns to Cracovia on loan

Latvian forward ends Lech Poznań stay to switch sides in Ekstraklasa

17 January 2018

Reading Football Club can confirm that forward Deniss Rakels has halted a season-long loan spell with Polish Ekstraklasa outfit Lech Poznań and has joined his former club KS Cracovia on a loan deal which will run until the end of June 2018.

The Latvian striker joined the Royals from Cracovia in January 2016 and has scored three goals in 8(+9) appearances during his time in RG2.

An ankle injury picked up against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup last August cut his 2016-17 campaign very short and he returned to Poland in the summer to represent Lech, who currently sit second in the Polish top tier.

Opportunities for regular first team football at Lech Poznań were limited however, and the 25-year-old will now spend the second half of the season back in Kraków at the Józef Piłsudski Stadium.

We would like to wish Deniss the very best of luck during his spell at Cracovia, who will be hoping to improve on their 12-placed position in the Ekstraklasa table.
