Reading Football Club can announce that 21-year-old goalkeeper Lewis Ward has completed a season-long loan move to League Two side Northampton Town.
Ward put pen to paper on a new two-year Royals contract last month and he will now get an opportunity to spend the first part of that term playing regular competitive football at Sixfields.
A local Reading lad, Lewis came through our Academy ranks here in RG2 – winning the Premier League Cup as a Royal. And, having impressed during a spell on loan at Aldershot last season, he was included in the Royals’ first team’s pre-season training camp in Austria earlier this month.
Previously, the 6’5” stopper has enjoyed loan stints with Sutton United, Whitehawk, Margate, Hungerford Town and Icelandic top tier side Fylkir and now he takes another step up in swapping the National League for his first taste of EFL football.
Newly managed by former Royals coach Dean Austin, the Cobblers will be looking to bounce back to the third tier this season after a 22nd place finish resulted in relegation from League One last season.
Town kick off their new league campaign at home to Lincoln City next Saturday.
Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Lewis the very best of luck during his loan spell this season.
