We’re heading to Austria this month for a pre-season training camp – and we can reveal that our two opponents will be Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş JK and Russian Premier League outfit Rubin Kazan in a pair of friendlies.
After flying out to our camp in Bad Erlach on Sunday 15th July, Paul Clement’s team will squeeze in some hard work on the training pitches before meeting Istanbul’s Beşiktaş on the evening of Tuesday 17th July, kick-off 7pm (6pm UK time) in Graz.
And to end the trip, the Royals will face Tatarstan-based Rubin Kazan on Friday 20th July, before heading back to British soil the next day. This fixture is scheduled to take place at 5pm local time (4pm UK time) in the town of Ilz, located in the state of Styria in south-east Austria.
They are bound to be two tough tests – Beşiktaş finished 4th in the Turkish top tier in the 2017/18 season to earn a spot in the Europa League for the coming campaign, while Rubin were crowned Russian champions in both 2008 and 2009, and as such have twice competed in the group stages of the Champions League.
Before we make our trip to the continent, we have two other pre-season friendly fixtures scheduled – away at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday 7th July (12pm) and against newly-promoted Fulham at Aldershot’s EBB Stadium on Saturday 14th July (1.30pm).
Once we return to home soil, we face another Premier League side in the form of Crystal Palace at 3pm on Saturday 28th July at Madejski Stadium.
