A group of coaching staff join 26 first team players in flying to Vienna this morning to begin a week’s training camp in Austria.
The Royals have played Eastleigh, AFC Wimbledon and Fulham so far in preparing for the new 2018-19 Championship campaign and the hard work will now continue in Bad Erlach, the Wiener Neustadt-Land district in the state of Lower Austria.
The group of players who will set up camp south of the River Danube include Jón Daði Böðvarsson, who returns from his World Cup adventure with Iceland to begin his pre-season in blue and white hoops.
All four new signings, John O’Shea, David Meyler, Andy Yiadom and Marc McNulty will take the opportunity to bond with their new teammates, while four of last season’s six Academy debutants will also play a part out in Austria – Omar Richards, Sam Smith, Danny Loader and Andy Rinomhota are all included in the 26.
Young goalkeeper Lewis Ward is also included in the travelling party as a third stopper available to Paul Clement, but Jordan Obita, Garath McCleary, Callum Harriott and Adrian Popa all stay on home soil as they recover from their respective injuries.
