Vito Mannone says that pre-season has flown by so far, with the Royals partaking in regular double training sessions in between their friendly matches - building up to the season ahead.
With a week-long training camp in Austria imminent, the Royals' goalkeeper is looking ahead to pre-season preparations ramping up once more, after Saturday's friendly against Fulham in Aldershot.
Having partaken in double sessions most days during pre-season so far, Mannone says that training has been tough but worthwhile.
Speaking to iFollow, Mannone said: "It's been a very tough few weeks. Our aim was to get our fitness really high and get ready for the season, these two weeks have flown past very quickly!
"Despite lots of double sessions and lots of effort on the pitch, obviously off the pitch as well we're trying to gel as a team.
"New players have come in and we've tried to welcome them and make them feel ready to work together.
"From experience I've played games after two to three weeks of training but the gaffer wanted to put us out there, playing 45 minutes each time and getting minutes into the legs, and a feel of the game.
"It's early but when you're training so much, it's difficult to cope with the heat but it's great for our bodies to gain condition and to work under difficult circumstances, where you're a bit tired and you need to keep going."
Fulham pose the next test for the Royals, after they were promoted to the Premier League via the Play-Offs at the end of last season.
The pre-season schedule has been put in place for the Royals to increase the quality of their opposition in each friendly, and Mannone is looking forward to the test at the weekend.
"It's a great programme for us," the Italian shot-stopper continued. "We just need to take it step by step, it's another week of hard work in front of us, before we fly to Austria it's a big test for us with Fulham.
"We want to get a positive result, despite the first two results it's something we want to improve, get more minutes and try to improve again."
