Our Carabao Cup first-round tie with Birmingham City has now been confirmed to take place on Tuesday 14th August, kicking off at 8pm at Madejski Stadium.
It has been over a decade since we have been drawn against the Blues in a cup competition – most recent was a 3-2 win at St Andrew’s back in 2007 in the FA Cup, thanks to Dave Kitson’s goal and Leroy Lita’s brace.
Each of Birmingham’s last two league visits to RG2 have been on Tuesday evenings, and once again it’ll be a game under the floodlights at Madejski Stadium with a place in the pot for round two on offer.
If the game isn’t settled in 90 minutes, it’s straight to spot-kicks – extra-time has been removed from this year’s edition of the tournament, while the ABBA penalty format has been scrapped this time around too.
