Royals defender, Chris Gunter, says he expects a tough pre-season as the Royals prepare for another demanding Championship season.
Wales full-back Gunter has played more than 50 times for club and country in each of the last five seasons - so he knows as well as anyone the importance of building fitness in pre-season.
The Royals reported for training for the first time on Monday, as they went straight into the hard work in searing summer heat at Hogwood.
Talking upon arrival at our training ground, Gunter spoke of a happy camp among the Reading squad as they returned from their summer breaks.
"It's always nice to come back on the first day when the sun is shining," Gunter said.
"It's always busy in the first couple of days, things change in terms of the schedule, but everyone's laughing and joking on the first day because we haven't seen each other for a long time.
"It's been quite a while now since we finished so we catch up on the stories of the summer, but we're looking forward to it now.
"We know it's going to be hard. It has to be hard work for a season ahead that's always very testing.
"It's important that you keep yourself in good shape. Football has changed now so, if you don't, you get found out very quickly!"
