Friday morning’s Carabao Cup draw has seen the Royals paired with Birmingham City in the first round of the competition, with the fixture scheduled to take place at Madejski Stadium on the week commencing 13th August.
Three former winners of the competition – Steve McManaman, Dennis Wise and Louis Saha – were in Ho Chi Minh City to conduct the draw, which was covered via the @Carabao_Cup Twitter feed.
The Royals were allocated ball number 28 in the Southern Section of the draw, and were pulled out in opposition to number 3, representing the Blues.
It will be the first time that the Royals have faced Birmingham in the tournament – the last time we met in a knock-out competition was back in 2007, when we triumphed 3-2 at St Andrew’s in the FA Cup.
The fixture will take place at Madejski Stadium on the week commencing Monday 13th August – the exact date, kick-off time and ticketing arrangements will be confirmed and announced in due course.
