Andy Yiadom says he has enjoyed the hard work in the sun as the Royals returned to pre-season training.
The full-back agreed terms to join the Royals from Barnsley after the season finished, and he says he has enjoyed his first week of training with the club.
“We’ve got in and we’ve worked really hard," The Ghana international said. "The sessions have been good, the boys are putting 100% in so we’re right in the thick of things.
“Everyone here has been really friendly, I know people like Tyler Blackett and a few others so it’s been nice and I’ve settled in very well, which is good.
“It’s been hot and I’ve gone a few shades darker, which hasn’t helped! It makes it much tougher but you’d rather put in 100% in these conditions. It makes the season much easier."
After some time away with his national team, playing against Jón Daði Böðvarsson and Iceland in a friendly before the World Cup, he says he feels refreshed and ready to go.
“The move did happen quite early but I had the summer holidays, it’s good to get back and get right into it.
“I went away with Ghana. We played Japan and Iceland, which was a good experience to go to those countries.
“It has broken it up a little bit, I was training out there so it has been good on the whole.”
With the first pre-season match around the corner, Yiadom says playing plenty of friendlies will put the Royals in good stead for the season ahead.
“It’s good to get a game in so early, the boys will get some minutes and have a run out.
“It has been nice, we got the balls out in the first session, we’ve worked hard but the balls are also out, so that’s good.
“All the boys know we’ve got Derby first on the TV, it gives players that extra boost so we need to work hard in training. Everybody’s looking forward to that first game!”
