Edwards feeling benefits of Clement’s arrival

Midfielder on new gaffer’s arrival and a chance to get back to winning ways

30 March 2018

A new era dawns tonight – it’s Paul Clement’s first game in the Madejski Stadium dugout as Royals boss. And Royals midfielder Dave Edwards is already feeling positive from a good week of training under our new manager.

“When a new manager comes in, you hope it has that effect where you get a positive reaction and you can go and get points on the board,” Edwards said.  “That’s what we all need at the football club – players, fans, staff… everyone is craving those three points on Friday night.

“I have to say, it has been very positive.  He has a great pedigree, he’s worked at some top clubs and with some of the best players in the world.  If we can take some of that experience and his coaching methods, I’m sure we can have a positive end to the season and take it into next season as well.

“I’ve really enjoyed it – we’ve had four really good training sessions.  A couple of hard sessions at the start of the week and it’s tapered off later to make sure we’re ready for Friday.

“He’s a very good coach, and you can see that from the way he takes a training session and the analysis that he and the other staff do as well.

“There’ll be slight tweaks in how we’re going to play and how we’ll look at opposition – there’s been a lot to take on board but it’s been good information and it’s been nice to have four solid days to put it into practice.  Everyone is really looking forward to it now.

“He’s got a specific way that he wants us to play and how he thinks we’ll be most effective to get results.  He’s explained that in detail and we’ve been able to take that onto the pitch.  Hopefully the changes he’s made will have a positive reaction in results.

“I believe that we can go into any game and that we can win it.  It’s the way that the league is set up – but if you see where QPR are in the table and where we are, we need to be aspiring to push up towards them.

“All games are winnable, but it’s about what we do.  We need to concentrate on our efforts and make sure we match them for workrate, desire, heart and passion.  Hopefully after all that the football will come into play and our tactics will be better than theirs and we can get three points.”
