"You can say we were up against a good side tonight...true. But we were outplayed and we weren't good enough against Wolves," Jaap Stam began his post-match reflection at Molineux.
"We have seen all season that they are a very good side, they have built it very well in terms of quality, ability, cleverness, physique - it's no surprise to see them at the top of the league.
"But we came here looking to get something out of the game. We tried to get forward when we had possession in the first half and, at the same time, stop them from scoring.
"And they didn't create many oportunities before they scored that first goal just before half-time. But you know with the ability they have that they are always a threat going forward - they have so much quality in their squad.
"And everybody knew that if they got an opportunity in front of goal, they would take it - and that's what they did towards the end of the first half.
"Going forward, we couldn't bring enough. Sometimes we got to the edge of the box, but then you need to be resilient, you need to have that shot, or put that ball in the box - instead of keeping it and waiting for the right moment. But we didn't do that well enough.
"In the second half we tried to do that better and stay in the game. But if you're switched off for those couple of moments, you give them time to open up the play and play those diagonal balls, they can score the second.
"At Norwich on Saturday, we need to be braver going forward, keeping that ball, creating opportunies and scoring goals. If we do it like we did today, it's not good enough!
"You always want to win and I am fed up with losing. The players are fed up with losing too, but we were outplayed today by Wolves. And we weren't good enough."
