A difficult campaign came to an end earlier this month and our Chief Executive Ron Gourlay believes it’ll take a collective effort and everyone pulling in the same direction to ensure a more successful season in 2018/19.
“I listen to the supporters, and I hear the frustrations,” Gourlay said. “Our fans have every right to be disappointed. They have a voice.
“And there were a lot of people hurting last season. That’s not a good feeling for anyone… it was a tough time, both for the fans and all the people at the club. It affects everyone.
“We tried our best last year, and the effort that was put in was very high. But it didn’t turn itself into the results that we needed. I was at all 46 league games last season…I was sat there with the fans and experiencing it too.
“The expectation at the start of the season was pointing towards a far better performance than was given. No-one anticipated that we would have found ourselves in the situation that we did.
“It isn’t acceptable… it isn’t a place where we want to be and it isn’t the place that this club should be. So it’s up to us to put it right!
“That’s about everyone pulling together, and learning from what we have experienced last year and making sure we don’t make the same mistakes again. And then we want to push forward.
“The season before, we nearly made it – but when the first game of the season starts, the previous season makes no difference at all.
“And that will be the same this year too. We have to park it, treat the new season as a clean slate.
“We want to prepare ourselves for the battles that we will face every week. That’s the big thing for us – that’s what we have to do when we cross that white line.
“It won’t be easy. There are some very good clubs coming down from the Premier League and more coming up from League One. It’ll be tough. So we have to be tough.”
