The Royals will travel to AFC Wimbledon for a pre-season friendly against their League One hosts on Saturday 7th July, kick-off 3pm.
AFC Wimbledon, who include former Royals loanee Kwesi Appiah in their squad, finished in 18th place in League One last season and will prepare for their third successive third tier campaign with a warm-up against the Royals.
Our trip to the Cherry Red Records Stadium has been scheduled to follow on from our first friendly of the summer – when Paul Clement’s side begin their preparations by taking on National League side Eastleigh the previous weekend. And it will fall just eight days prior to the first team squad’s pre-season tour to Austria.
Managed by former Wimbledon midfielder Neal Ardley, Kingsmeadow will welcome us for a pre-season encounter for the second time in two years – the Royals will be keen to put in a performance and get a positive result after falling to a 2-0 defeat against a then newly-promoted Dons outfit in July 2016.
However, back in 2012 Reading fired seven past AFC Wimbledon in pre-season; an Adam Le Fondre double began proceedings before Michail Antonio and Jordan Obita weighed in ahead of a Simon Church hat-trick!
Like Eastleigh’s Silverlake Stadium, AFC Wimbledon’s home is less than an hour’s drive from RG2, giving Royals fans a good opportunity to watch their side prepare for the challenge of the Championship in 2018-19.
Ticket details will be announced in due course and more information about our pre-season schedule this summer will be confirmed in the near future.
