FULL-TIME | Wigan 0-0 Reading

A captivating match but it ends goalless at the DW Stadium.  The Royals and the Latics each take a point.

End to end stuff as both teams try to snatch the winner.

Stoppage as Kal Naismith receives treatment for the Latics.  He limps off and might not be able to continue.

5 added minutes.

McNulty, Sims and Loader combine as the ball is played forward... it breaks to Loader who strikes first time, deflected over!  Corner for the Royals...

Wigan with a couple of set-pieces and looking to snatch the points.   A bit of a goalmouth scramble but Reading survive!

Darron Gibson off for Callum Connolly is the final sub of the game.

It's getting to the stage of the game where any goal would be a likely winner.

It's Reading on the attack at the moment but Wigan showing they have breaking power.

Third and final change for the Royals.  On comes Marc McNulty, replacing Yakou Meite.

Danny Loader gets straight into the action in a Royals shirt.

Sub for Reading as Josh Sims replaces Garath McCleary.

Gibson with a half-volley from the best part of 30 yards as it falls invitingly - a crisp, thunderous strike but it's always bending wide.

John Swift lines up an effort for Reading.

Gary Roberts comes off for Wigan, replaced by Will Grigg.

Into the final 20 minutes and no goals yet.

Sub for the Royals - and it's a league debut for Danny Loader!

The forward replaces Sone Aluko for the final quarter of the game.

Another save by Walton!

John Swift receives 25 yards out and strikes cleanly, and the goalie has to push away for a corner.

First change of the game - Nick Powell is injured and gets replaced by Joe Garner for Wigan.

Meite comes oh-so-close to grabbing another goal, but Walton saves from a tight angle!  Swift's strafing ball forward causes confusion between defender Burn and goalie Walton, allowing the Ivorian in... but saved from inside the six-yard box!

It's a dipper by John Swift, but it doesn't drop enough to hit the target and trouble goalkeeper Christian Walton.  0-0.

Free-kick 25 yards from goal for the Royals as John Swift is brought down - it was a quick counter by Reading after Tyler Blackett did brilliantly to tackle Reece James.  Home fans wanted a foul but he got his foot to the ball.

Gary Roberts goes down in the box... and gets booked for simulation!

Andy Rinomhota was in close quarters but didn't make any contact with the Latics man, but he goes to ground.  The ref spotted it.

Down the other end of the field, Roberts' low cross is turned away by the legs of Jaakkola, and then Windass has to rush a first-time effort as the ball pinballs its way through to him.  Wide.

Patient play by the Royals and it almost brings about an opener.

Aluko drifts in off the left and slots through to Meite, who was trying to roll his marker, but the goalkeeper gets to the the through-ball just before the forward!

Back underway in Wigan - the Latics get the ball rolling in the second period.

Teams are back out of the tunnel on a nippy Lancashire afternoon.

Kick-off moments away...

HALF-TIME | Wigan Athletic 0-0 Reading

No breakthrough yet at the DW Stadium, despite a spate of opportunities at either end to get a goal.

45 more minutes to come!

WOW - what a stop by Anssi Jaakkola, denying Josh Windass from 12 yards!

Naismith with the low cross and a venomous, sweeping hit with pure contact.  The stopper gets his gloves to it!

Goalless as we approach the break.

Really good chance for Wigan, wasted.  Kal Naismith sent over a cross from the left byline and Nick Powell's flick-on found Nathan Byrne arriving on the far side... he stooped to throw his head at it but put it past the far post.

Chris Gunter the first to have his name taken - bit of a lunging tackle on Gary Roberts and the ball had already gone.

Andy Rinomhota riding a tackle.

Chances are coming thick and fast now and the latest comes from a Swift free-kick, which Aluko won near the right corner-flag.

There's some serious zip on his set-piece delivery and Reece James turns it a matter of inches over his own bar.

Meite hits the post!

Terrific play by Reading and McCleary gets down the left... he cuts back from near the byline, allowing the Ivorian to sweep in a left-footed shot.  It's wide off the base of the upright!

McCleary slots a pass through midfield.

Wigan have the ball in the net... but it's offside!

James and Roberts again work a short corner but the former is offside as he collects and sends in the cross which Powell turned in.  Flag is raised.

And a terrific save by Jaakkola at the other end!  Danger-man Nick Powell receives and shoots with little space to work with... he leathers it but the big Finn tips over.

Really good chance for the Royals!

Gutsy run from Rinomhota to break through a couple of challenges and he works the ball to McCleary - the winger slots through to Meite but Burn blocks at the last!

Reading have managed to keep Wigan out in the early exchanges and Kipre could only turn wide as he got on to Powell's flick-on.

And Clement's men getting on the front foot now.  Swift pulling the strings around the centre of the park and Gunter regularly getting up in support of the attack.

Not many clear-cut chances so far, although another half-chance for the hosts.  It's a deep free-kick, again by Roberts, which towering defender Dan Burn gets his head to.  It's well wide under pressure.

It's Roberts who sends in the delivery as he works a short corner with James - it takes a nick on the way through, hits Blackett, and falls kindly for Royals stopper Jaakkola to gather.

Excellent covering in the middle by Chris Gunter - a quick break down the right for Wigan and a cross hooked over, but the Welshman takes charge and hooks away just before Gary Roberts can get on the end of it!  Corner to the hosts.

Great surging run by McCleary as he receives the ball on the turn in the centre circle.  He darts downfield and strikes across goal - it's going wide at the far post but Meite is there to meet it, and draws a point-blank save from the goalie!  The linesman had his flag up for offside, though.

Early chance for the Latics as Powell wins a free-kick wide on the right, allowing Roberts to send over a dead ball.  Decent delivery but poked wide at the far side - Jaakkola untroubled.

The Royals get the game started here in Lancashire.

Here come the teams!  Almost time to get going at the DW...

17-year-old Conor Lawless is here with Paul Clement's travelling squad - not involved in today's team but terrific experience for the Royals scholar!

Around 10 minutes until kick-off here - teams are back in the dressing rooms and out of the cold, receiving some final instructions...

Gaffer Paul Clement and Sporting Director Gianluca Nani in conversation at the DW.

Liam Moore skippers the side this afternoon at the DW Stadium.  Counting down to kick-off!
