Josh Barrett’s impressive performances for our Under-23 squad over the past month have earned him a nomination for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for October 2018!
The 20-year-old midfielder has notched four goals in as many U23 games across three different competitions – Scott Marshall’s side are now nine unbeaten, and have won six of those fixtures!
Barrett struck the Royals’ second goal in a 3-1 win in the Premier League Cup away at Colchester at the start of the month, getting October off to a winning start. And then back in Premier League 2 action, two goals on Teesside for Barrett in a 3-2 win away in Middlesbrough.
Back in Berkshire, Barrett was involved when the Royals snatched a last-gasp equaliser against Sparta Prague at Madejski Stadium, and then at Hogwood Park on Saturday he grabbed what proved to be the winner as Reading came from behind to beat Stoke City.
It is the third consecutive month that a Reading player has been nominated for the award. Forward Danny Loader was the eventual winner of the August award, and some fine displays in midfield for Ryan East earned him a nomination in September.
Josh has stiff competition for the award. The five-man shortlist is as follows…
- Tyreece John-Jules – Arsenal
- Elias Sorensen – Newcastle United
- Josh Barrett – Reading
- Lasse Sorensen – Stoke City
- Yan Dhanda – Swansea City
The winner of the October award will be announced at 10am on Friday 9th November 2018. Our congratulations to Josh on a well-earned nomination!
