It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Josh Barrett has won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for October 2018.
Four games, four goals. A terrific return for Barrett over the course of another positive month for our Under-23 squad! His involvement as a string-puller in three wins in the PL2 and PL Cup and a last-gasp draw against Sparta Prague in the PL International Cup didn’t go unnoticed.
The nominations for the award are made by opposition coaches who highlight the outstanding performances – so to earn a nomination in the first place is always an impressive feat, as they can be fierce critics! And to be named winner of the award - which runs across both divisions of Premier League 2 - has to be earned.
This is the third straight month since the start of the season that we have had a player nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award, and the second time a Royal has won it.
Danny Loader took home the silverware for his impressive displays in August, while Ryan East was shortlisted in September. And Josh’s award is a deserved reflection on a spate of outstanding performances.
Josh was on target from the penalty spot in our first game in November, too… that ended 5-4 in our favour as Ben House found a 93rd-minute winner away at Aston Villa! That result took our boys top of the table as they continue to make waves at U23 level.
Many congratulations to Josh on winning this award!
