Remi nominated for FSF Women's Player of the Year

Reading FC Women's star on shortlist for prestigious award...

5 November 2018

The Football Supporters' Federation last week announced its shortlists for the 2018 FSF Awards - and amongst those shortlisted was a Royal!

96 shortlisted candidates will battle it out across 16 categories, recognising everything from the best players of 2018 to fans’ favourite away days.

This is the third year that the FSF are celebrating the Women’s Player of the Year and the shortlist was compiled after bringing together the FAWSL Supporters' Player of the Year Award winners for 2017-18 with a panel convened by leading women's football magazine She Kicks picking their top six performers from that selection.

And Remi Allen represents Reading FC Women as one of just six stars from the women's game - she is joined by former Royals Academy graduate and Ballon d'Or nominee Fran Kirby, Manchester City's Keira Walsh, free-scoring striker Ellen White, Arsenal's Beth Mead and Sunderland's Lucy Staniforth.

They will stand alongside some of the biggest names in world football - nominees for the Men’s Player of the Year category include Raheem Sterling, Sergio Agüero, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Eden Hazard and Harry Maguire.

Voting is open now and Royals fans can back Remi by visiting www.fsf.org.uk/vote. Voting will remain open until midday on Monday 19th November, with the awards being presented at the Tower of London on the evening of Monday 3rd December.

Elsewhere on the evening, the Football Supporters' Federation will promote the good work of fan groups up and down the country in making football more inclusive and welcoming to all communities.

It will recognise the work Supporter Liaison Officers (SLOs) do for fans across the country which often goes unnoticed and they are introducing a new National Game Community Award this year that showcases the variety of community outreach work undertaken by non-league football clubs.

The other categories that fans will be able to have their say on include the best commentators, podcasts, bloggers and football writers. In all, 10 categories are open to a public vote, while six categories (Away Day, Club Podcast, Fans for Diversity, Fanzine, National Game Community Award and Supporter Liaison Officer of the Year) will be decided by an FSF panel.

Good luck to all nominees, especially Remi!
