FULL-TIME | Birmingham City 2-1 Reading

The Royals rally late but can't quite grab that equaliser.  The Blues take the points this evening.

Gardner hacks down Bacuna, sees a yellow card.

GOAL! 2-1 the score as Meite is played in behind and strikes past Camp!

Four added minutes...

Meite denied what would have been a stunning goal, which could have set up a grandstand finish.

Yiadom fires over a strafing cross, met with a fierce header by the Ivorian.  But a good save when it was needed by Camp.

Final change for the hosts.  Off comes Lukas Jutkiewicz, and on comes Beryly Lubala.

Down the other end, Aluko plays a smart one-two but gets under his shot, which rises over the bar.

Fantastic save by Jaakkola to deny Mahoney.

Adams had gobbled up a loose pass and had a free run at goal - he squared for sub Mahoney, who took a touch, but the big Finn came off his line quickly to make a good save.

And the Royals make their final change.  Off comes John Swift, and on comes Sone Aluko.

Blues make their second sub.  Playmaker Jota makes way, and Viv Solomon-Otabor comes on.

Half a chance for Baldock as he glides onto a through-ball, but he can't generate any power to trouble Camp.  A nice team move in the build-up.

The manager dishes out the orders.

Jota with a chance to make it a third for the hosts, as Jutkiewicz sprays a ball out to the attacker, but he gets well under his effort.

Birmingham break down the other end... and make it 2-0.

A cross from wide on the right finds Jutkiewicz pulling away towards the back stick, and it's a well-steered header back across goal and beyond the dive of Jaakkola.

Fantastic opportunity for the Royals but Camp makes an incredible save.

It's from his own teammate, too.  Baldock gets to the byline, crosses low, and Kieftenbeld's stretching clearance is destined for his own net but it hits the goalie and travels behind.

Lovely first touch by McCleary as he races onto a ball - but he's bundled off the ball fairly on the edge of the area.

Double sub for the Royals, and straight swaps.

Jón Daði Böðvarsson and Josh Sims make way, and Sam Baldock and Garath McCleary take to the field.

Blues fizz a ball across the box - it evades everyone and Reading survive this attack.

The Royals just aren't getting the rub of the green at the moment.  They work hard to get into a good position on the right, but Yiadom's cross is deflected against him and goes out for a goal-kick.

Chance for Birmingham to double their lead but some heroic defending on the line keeps it out.

Adams scampered down the left and cut back - it fell to the Spaniard on the edge of a crowded box but it looked like it was Jaakkola that made the save!

It's Swift who strikes the free-kick - it nicks the wall on its way over the bar.

Chance for an instant reply as Swift is taken out by Birmingham skipper Morrison, just outside the area.  Free-kick opportunity.

Goal - Birmingham City lead 1-0.

Jota's corner is flicked on, and then stabbed in by Gary Gardner.

Che Adams gets the ball rolling in the second half.

No changes for either side at the interval. Birmingham will kick-off again in a few moments.

The teams have emerged from the tunnel ahead of the second half...

HALF-TIME | Birmingham City 0-0 Reading

No goals at the break, despite some good openings at both ends of the field.

45 more to come!

Swift's effort is deflected behind from the edge of the box.  It was a lovely turn on half-way by Kelly that created the attack, but the Royals can't take advantage.

That's Maghoma's last involvement of the evening.

He's injured and needs replacing - on comes Connor Mahoney.

Brave stuff by Liam Moore!

Steps in and blocks a powerful effort by Maghoma from the edge of the area.

Teasing cross by Jota - an inswinger from the right on his left boot.

Good defending by Blackett in the circumstances as he eases Jutkiewicz out as he tries to attack at the far side.  Still goalless.

Yakou Meite's early chance for Reading.

Bit a break in play before the corner comes in - Jacques Maghoma took a whack.  He'll be okay to continue, after some treatment.

John Swift slips in the centre circle, and Maghoma steals possession and drives into the area...

Liam Kelly bust a gut to get back and get a toe on the ball and then Swift, keen to make amends, makes a terrific defensive tackle to snuff out the chance!

Sims wins a free-kick, 25 yards out to the left of goal.

John Swift steps up a strikes the wet ball, hard and low... at full stretch Camp pushes it around the post!

Wonderful tackle by Tiago Ilori!

Jutkiewicz slid a ball into the feet of strike-partner Adams, whose deft first touch almost allowed him a strike on goal... well-timed tackle in the area by the Portuguese centre-half.

Decent effort by Che Adams as Birmingham spring a quick attack, but Jaakkola gets down to it well and smothers.

WOW - so close to the opener by Liam Kelly... a massive let-off for the hosts.

Jón Daði Böðvarsson cushions down to the midfielder, and he takes on touch to get it out of his feet, and another to blast at goal.  Camp is right behind it but spills and it glances the post on its way wide!

Tyler Blackett in action at St Andrew's, where he was once a loanee.

Andy Yiadom gets booked - probably needed to make that foul.  Jacques Maghoma pinched possession on the Blues left and charged forward, and the full-back's lunging tackle was mistimed.

Great chance for Meite... and a terrific save by Lee Camp to keep him out!

Lovely play to build up.  Kelly breaks and finds Swift, who then sprays into the path of Meite... he steps outside and drills towards goal but it smashes into the goalie and away!

It's a slick and slippery pitch - making for high-tempo passing, but also creating a bit of chaos at times too...

... Harlee Dean slipped as he went to control a ball down the channel, nearly allowing Sims in on the Reading right.  He recovers just in time!

A diagonal ball is half-dealt with by Bacuna and Sims, but eventually falls to Maghoma outside the area.  He leans back as he strikes and no danger of threatening the goal.

Another defensive clearance by Bacuna - but lucky not to score a spectacular own-goal!

A firm cross by Che Adams, met by the Royals midfielder... a firm contact to send it behind, but not far away from Anssi Jaakkola's goal!

A little bit of defending for Reading to do in the early stages.  Bacuna is back in his own box and springs high and cuts out Maxime Colin's delivery.

The Royals get going - Liam Kelly kicks off.

We're shooting towards the Tilton Road in the first period.

Andy Yiadom getting up to speed in the warm-up!
