On loan | More minutes for our young players

Smith, Watson, Osho & Shokunbi all feature over the weekend

15 October 2018

No action for the first team this weekend, but some of our young lads were picking up minutes out on loan lower down the divisions...

Sam Smith came off the bench to help Oxford United drag themselves off the foot of the League One table with a 2-0 home win over fellow strugglers Plymouth Argyle - the Royals' Academy strike star replaced former Royal Jamie Mackie at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

Full back Tennai Watson played the first half in an AFC Wimbledon defeat to League One leaders Portsmouth - Neal Ardley made a triple substitution at half-time at Kingsmeadow and the Dons pulled one back but lost 2-1 against the League One frontrunners.

In League Two, goalkeeper Lewis Ward was unused in Northampton Town's win over sixth-placed Forest Green Rovers.

And outside of the EFL, centre-back Gabriel Osho has settled in very well at Aldershot Town; he followed up a man-of-the-match winning debut for National League side by playing the full ninety minutes in a 2-1 win at Eastleigh at the weekend. Former Academy graduate Scott Rendell bagged the winner for the Shots at the Silverlake Stadium.

Billericay Town moved two points clear at the top of the National South table after a hard fought 1-0 win at home to battling Gloucester City and Ade Shokunbi began the move which led to Town's 39th minute winner at the weekend.
